We believe changing the lives of thousands of young Californians also helps the restaurant industry fulfill its need for a qualified, motivated & committed workforce. By uniting the industry, we inspire young people to pursue college & explore careers.

Specialty Restaurants is proud to support the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation which invests in the future of the restaurant industry by providing California youth with opportunities to build foodservice careers through high-quality industry-driven education, mentoring, life-skills training, scholarships, competitions and support.

Specialty Restaurants will be participating in the Culinary Clash this year at the Western Food Expo Convention. The Culinary Clash is an exciting event that pits restaurant heavyweights against each other for bragging rights. Restaurant teams will be paired up with a ProStart® student or graduate as a sous chef.  Food tastes, Karl Strauss craft beer and Rodney Strong Wine Estates wines will be served for all attendees.

The restaurant industry is projected to employ nearly 15 million workers by 2019, leaving a looming gap in the number of well-trained individuals driven to pursue a career in the hospitality field. Through the ProStart curriculum, which is taught at 100 high schools across California, the Foundation gives at-risk students an incentive to stay in school and earn a high school diploma, even if they have no other motivation to do so. ProStart students are well-equipped, motivated and empowered to pursue a college-level education in their field, as well as to enter the workforce.

This lively cooking competition between restaurant brands is held during the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo. Guests enjoy tasty appetizers and beverages while rooting for their favorite restaurant team. Corporate chefs and executives are paired with a ProStart student to prepare an amuse-bouche and an entrée in 30 minutes using only two butane burners.

The exciting event will pit restaurant heavyweights against each other for bragging rights and the ultimate prize – The Purse.

Help your team win The Purse by making a tax-deductible donation to support high school culinary arts education!
