Amy Lauria hasn't added a story.
In 2009, at the young age of 13, Hailey McFarlane, daughter of Mike
and Annie McFarlane, was diagnosed with Schwannoma Brain Tumors.
The tumors are attached to her carotid arteries, the main arteries to
the brain that affect many facial nerves. Hailey underwent long,
intrusive brain surgery at the University of Minnesota Amplatz
Childrens Hospital in July 2009, which removed the majority of one
tumor. Because of the long (24 hour) surgery
and location of the
tumor, it couldn’t fully be removed. She was left deaf in one ear, and
with Homer’s Syndrome. In May of 2014, MRI scans showed that the tumor
had grown back and nearly doubled.
Hailey will need more brain surgery to remove as much as possible, as well as removal and replacement of the carotid artery. She will have a long recovery time.
Hailey is a 2014 graduate of Coon Rapids High School and is a very strong, optimistic young lady.
She is determined to be victorious.
SHE IS A WARRIOR!
