Thank you for turning to our page about 21 Stories for Scouts. This fundraising campaign supports the expansion of Scouting BSA into urban areas that are considered "non-traditional" for Scouting, where outdoor activities and intensive adult guidance are fresh new experiences for many young people. One of the great things about Scouting is that it opens young minds to the needs of others.
When we see Scouts lending aid to others, we’re witnessing examples of fundamental American principles in action: sharing the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Their active goodwill benefits everyone, because each of us passes through one stage of life or another when we’re touched by the voluntarism of Scouts, even when we’re not aware of it. It could be a BSA food drive for community cupboards, the Christmas decorations installed in our church, snow-shoveled walks and fire hydrants, a wheelchair ramp built at a hospice entrance, or enhancements in local parks. Our safety and quality of life are improved by having Scouts among us. In the process, young people connect with their community at an early age, become attuned to others’ needs, and grow ever more capable in the tasks they learn to manage.
The local BSA organization, Seneca Waterways Council, is embarked upon a challenging effort to expand Scouting into urban settings, as well as some poor rural locales. This produces multiple good outcomes: reaching more youth to develop their potential, who will in turn help others by contributing to their communities.
This project simply needs adequate support through the 21 Stories for Scouts fundraiser. I hope you’ll sponsor me and my young companions in this year’s 21 Stories event. Participants will step off the top balcony of Kodak Tower on May 17 and rappel down to State Street. The campaign is organized and conducted by the local Scouts BSA council, without any middleman, so all contributions go directly into the 21 Stories fund. The rappelling event is also designed as a public promotion for Scouting as well as a fundraiser, thus stretching every dollar of your sponsorship, and all donations are tax-deductible.
If you’d like to contribute to urban Scouting, you can do so securely from this page. With your help, we’ll hit the ropes on Friday, May 17 to help build a better future for many young people.
Scouting along,
Justin Tubiolo
The annual thrill of 21 Stories for Scouts returns on Friday, May 17 for its 15th year and final year on the edge of Kodak!
Challenge yourself to step beyond your own boundaries (safely) and have a thrill of a lifetime while supporting life changing experiences for thousands of youth can have through the Scouting program. Be one of the first 100 brave volunteers who meet or exceed their fundraising goals!
How does it work?
You rappel a skyscraper! We provide the harness and the training, you accept the thrill!
It starts with making a commitment to contribute or raise (a minimum of) $1,100 for your rappel experience. Once registered, you can amaze your family and friends with the daring feat you will take on and ask for their support (any amount big or small) to get you to your fundraising goal.
Proceeds help expand Scouting programs for youth in underserved, typically urban, neighborhoods in our community giving those youth opportunities to participate in Scouting's character and leadership development programs...and most of all fun and engaging activities that help them thrive!
