Ann LaBelle hasn't added a story.
This is Otto. He is one of the longest residents of the Crew family, after coming to us 7 years ago from dog fighting. Our boy has had his ups and downs over the years but he's pretty much remained strong and solid....
Until recently. Otto spent last week vomiting severely. No matter how bland the diet, he just couldn't keep anything down. We worked closely with the vet to try and help him, but after a week of large water intake, vomiting and being depressed we arranged to take Otto into the Dr's. As most of you know, Otto going to the vet is a touchy thing so we have to go when the office is closed for safety reasons. And knowing he has breathing issues with sedation makes for a very tough visit. We refilled his sedatives to prepare him for the visit and off we went.
Otto was sedated and underwent a series of testing. While under he did have two issues with breathing but came back to us with some help from the vet & staff. Since he has had trouble all week he was also filled with several fluid pockets to help hydrate his system. Dr. T also wanted immediate medication on board so Otto received several injections while he was under, this would also ensure the medication would stay in his body if he vomited again.
On the X-ray table Otto started bleeding, at first we couldn't figure out why or where all the blood was coming from, then found the he was bleeding out of his rectum. Dr. T checked his anal glands but she didn't feel anything out of the ordinary or anything else unusual up there. So we had another unknown issue to add to our growing list.
With all the exams and testing completed, and our grumpy boy waking up, we were also sent home with a handful of medications to keep him on while we waited for results.
As results have come in we've gotten no answers and have only been able to rule things out. We could do an ultrasound to try to get a definitive answer, but our vet and team think that putting him under again would be too much for him at this time. So we have decided to do the process of elimination treatment for him. It's the safest way to go right now for him and his condition.
We are treating him for Leaky Gut first. We have been cooking for him daily and hiding his host of medications in food any way we can. This weekend has been filled with ups and downs from not wanting to eat, which means no medications. To vomiting again this morning, even on anti nausea medications. We are working closely with our vet team and are taking this day by day right now.
But Otto needs your help too....His prescriptions, testing, vetting, food...etc are all adding up quickly. Can you help?
We want to thank Marletta S for her donation made as we headed to the hospital Friday.
