You can just see that something might be special about her when you look at Millie.  This sweet 10 month old was not in our area, her condition runs into the thousands to treat, every other rescue contacted turned her down, and there is no guarantee we can help her.  But Millie is a Dachshund, WE are Dachshund Rescue so we organized a transport to bring the little girl who nobody could help to us and to Dr. Peress at Southeast Veterinary Neurology.

Millie is suffering from hydrocephalus, or "water on the brain".  For some reason her system will not automatically drain the excess CSF (Cerebrospinal fluid) out of her skull.  The excess pressure causes the brain to "smoosh" (not a neurological term....) which can cause blindness, seizures, and odd behaviors. If left untreated it will likely kill her.

We have no guarantee that we can help Millie, but we can give her a chance, so her transport brought her to SEVN where Dr. Peress performed an MRI which revealed that this sweet little girl has hardly any "brain" at all with over 90% of her skull being filled with CSF.

It appears that Millie can see, so it has been decided to start her on medication which takes up to two weeks to take affect, and is also a good indicator if she could be a surgical candidate.

In the mean time, we are back again to ask your help to cover Millie's MRI and care and while we wait to see what happens on the meds, Millie is relaxing in a foster home and getting loved on <3

We know of no other rescue doxie or otherwise that has taken on a hydrocephalus case, let alone multiple ones.  The fact that we can even consider it is 100% a testament to YOU, our DRSF community who makes it possible for us to be Dachshund Rescue....not "Dachshund Only if there is a Guarantee" or "Dachshund Only Totally Healthy and Adoptable".   YOU are the Rescue in Dachshund RESCUE South Florida and we hope that you agree that Millie's life is worth the chance <3

As always, even $1 gets us closer to our goal and even if you are not able to donate, we still invite you to share her story as you never know whose heart you will touch!!
