Trish Dunbar hasn't added a story.
My name is Trish and I live in the beautiful city of Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada with my partner & our dog, Bear. I’m a semi-retired senior woman who is an artist and works part-time as a bookkeeper’s assistant.
I’m trying to help a friend that I’ll call Lynda. She is also a senior lady but has no family to help her. I’ve known Lynda for many years but we’re not getting any younger and she has fallen on harder times. Unable to afford to continue to living in Victoria, she moved to a nice-looking apartment in a smaller town up-island about a 90-minute drive from here. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving and the nice apartment building became infested with bedbugs.
The building management is doing some spraying to help get the bugs under control but Lynda feels it’s not very effective. Being a retired senior & having quite a bit of pain & other physical problems, Lynda is unable to move the furniture around as required by the management to help with the spraying. She is on a pension and can’t afford to hire someone to help her. Lynda has already spent money she doesn’t have to try to keep her clothes washed & bug free but the bugs are still in her bed & furniture and she’s not getting any sleep. She’s also worried about the effects of the spraying on her mini-dachshund, Cooper. She needs to get out of that building and into a decent place where she and Cooper can live.
She needs to find hope that her life will get better again because right now, it’s hell with no visible way out.
First she needs to find a new home that will allow dogs, that she can afford. She can’t afford to pay rent at her current apartment & the first & last month’s rent in a new place so she needs help with that. In order to move, she needs to have all of her possessions - clothes, furniture, sheets, towels, rugs, everything - treated by a company that does that type of work. She then must have a moving company move all of her cleaned possessions to a new place, during which time she may need to stay in a motel for a night. Once all that is done her pensions will then be able to pay her rent and she’ll be able to settle into a normal life.
So, this is a breakdown of what is needed:
1. First and last months’ rent in a new home. $1800
2. Heat treatment of everything in her home. A company on the Island will send in a crew to prepare her home for treatment, then do the heat treatment, and finally help her to pack up for the movers. Cost will be $4000 - $5000.
3. Her van will need to be treated as well. $300
3. 2 men will come into load everything into a moving truck and drive to her new home in Victoria. Unload everything into her new home. Total cost of truck and 2 movers: $1200
4. If there is a delay between everything being moved out of her current apartment & the trip down to Victoria, she will need one night’s accommodation in a local motel with a couple of meals. $200
5. Unforeseen circumstances, problems, anything that can’t be planned for, anything I’ve forgotten. $1800.
Can you help me help my friend? It’s more money than I and Lynda’s other friends can afford to give. If you are able to contribute even a few dollars, it will go toward giving a good person hope that her life is going to get better again.
