We have a 16000 square foot indoor greenhouse and community garden, located 2 degrees above the Arctic Circle - at the end of the Dempster Highway. It was established in 1998, using an old hockey arena, that is an a state of disrepair.

The greenhouse has 100 members who farm plots, and 20 community beds. We also grow starter plants for the outlying communities, as part of the Small Scale Food Project with the cooperation with the GNWT. We have many programs for youth, elders and the homeless shelter. We help promote health through physical activity, nutrition, reducing isolation - increasing socialization and building community partnerships.

This crowd fund effort was started to help us raise money for the roof - and in great news, the Government of the NWT, ITI department, has finalized the last 60% (we have contributed 40% from fundraising and donations). Repairs beging shortly!

However, there is always more to do. Now that the roof is going up, we want to focus on the next projects:

- repair of the flooring in the commercial greenhouse

- finishing the ceiling for the bottom floor, and cleaning out the mold in the walls

- building a chicken coop indoors!

- creating a large outdoor bed

- educational programming for Inuvik and the surrounding communities.

Although the scope of the fundraiser has changed, our goals have not. We want to promote community through gardening, and every little bit helps! Thank you for continued support!
