Sarah Clay hasn't added a story.
We are a group of 8 social work students from the University of the Fraser Valley. We are raising funds for much needed equipment for a sensory room at Matthew's House. This is a room for children who have visual and developmental disabilities. The sensory objects help stimulate growth in both physical and intellectual development, as well as help them to self-regulate.
Matthew's House in a non-profit House which relies on donations from the community to provide care to children and families.
This House provides respite care for families who provide 24/7 care for their children and who need much needed breaks and without Matthew's House would not have the opportunity.

Matthew’s House
Matthew's House is a respite care home for children living with complex healthcare needs. Located in Abbotsford, BC, Matthew's House provides care for families from across British Columbia. Matthew's House is a partner in the Campus of Care, along with Abbotsford Hospice Society and Canuck Place. Up to five children at a time are cared for in a state-of-the-art residence staffed by experienced caregivers.
Parents have a special love and a special way of caring for their children. Even good parents can get tired from providing continuous care. Matthew's House provides an opportunity for parents to find rest in order to encourage healthy families. While children are cared for by trained and experienced staff in a well-equipped home, families can be strengthened through a time of rejuvenation.
Fundraising
Providing families with the support they need, Matthew's House is about caring for kids, a community encouraging one another, hospitality, compassion and joy. Matthew's House relies significantly on the generous financial support of individuals and community partners. Considerate donations support this state-of-the-art home for children with complex health care needs, where children receive expert care while their families get a much needed rest. We need to raise over $850,000 annually to ensure that this important resource will continue to provide a home away from home for families who need respite.
Communitas
Matthew's House is facilitated by Communitas Supportive Care Society, a local social service agency with a nearly 40-year record of providing quality care to individuals living with disabilities throughout British Columbia.
Inspired by the life of a young boy named Matthew
The dream of Matthew’s House began with a boy named Matthew. At birth, Matthew suffered severe birth asphyxia, leaving him completely dependent on others for the activities of daily living. Despite many challenges, Matthew brought great joy to his family. Nothing about life with Matthew’s body was simple. Matthew lived with significant amounts of pain, uncontrolled seizures and digestive issues. Still, Matthew had a gentle spirit. He had a way of getting into your heart and grabbing hold of it. On the morning of August 14, 2010 Matthew took his last breaths while being held in loving arms. Matthew touched many people’s hearts and left a legacy.
Recognizing the challenges families face in providing care for children with complex healthcare needs, and inspired by Matthew's legacy, Matthew's parents, Doug and Andrea Froese, began searching for a way to support families and children in BC. The Froeses' began organizing friends and community partners to support the creation of a home away from home where families could experience rest. Through their vision and tireless advocacy, Matthew's House was established.
