Laura Argiri hasn't added a story.
I have a very sick companion cat with emergency medical needs, and the clock is ticking. This is not for anyone who is in a position of financial distress. If that’s your situation, please disregard it. And please forgive how hurried it seems – I am in a hurry, so I didn’t have time to polish this letter.
I am reaching out because I need to finance medical care for my sweet, kind cat, Zoe.
Zoe was a rescued feral kitten. When I got her, she was terrified of everyone, including me. We got past her fear and bonded very tightly. In Zoe, I had a cat who was like me – quiet, reserved, but very much into the joys of the world and the senses, and totally affectionate and loyal to her chosen one. I have loved all my cats for their different qualities, but I have never had a gentler cat than Zoe, or one more eager to please me. She seems to enjoy her life so much—sleeping in the bed with me, staying with me while I work, eating, patrolling the backyard and sprawling in the sun there. There is something special about having someone who is totally pleased with the life you have to offer her.
My two Siamese, who were 17.5 years old, died in November of 2012 and March 2013. Zoe, the youngster in my household at age seven, was my consolation. Now eight, Zoe should be able to look forward to at least seven or eight more good years.
Yesterday, however, she started having breathing difficulties and was diagnosed with “pleural effusion.” This means fluid pressing on her lungs. The emergency vet clinic removed the fluid. They ruled out trauma and said that the fluid was most likely caused by either heart disease or cancer. Getting just that amount of information has set me back $700.
I got financially gutted and put back on Square Zero by my older cats’ illnesses and one of my own in 2012-2013. Aubrey went into kidney failure, and at the same time I had a respiratory infection that kept me in bed for six weeks, and no health insurance at that time, and then Christabel went into kidney failure. Bills and more bills, and the loss of earnings along with them, and two deaths. I just started the first full-time job that I could get. I have also started a business and website to pay off debt and prosper, but now I do not have the large sum needed to get an exact diagnosis and treatment for Zoe. If we are lucky (as lucky as we can be in this scenario), and she does have heart disease, that is treatable. She could enjoy good time with medication and medical care if she has heart disease. I want to give her every chance. She deserves the best. She had a rough start in life. She has been so brave, learning to trust me. She is a pure source of happiness for me.
Again, this outreach is not addressed to anyone who is in need or under financial pressure. But if you are prospering, and you love animals and would like to help a very worthy companion animal, please consider helping Zoe. This is about her, not about me and not about whatever I have that passes for pride. To help her in time, I’m getting past pride. If you can’t contribute, share on Facebook and with others who might be interested. And if you help me to help Zoe, in return, I will help you. You can check out my website, www.listeningplace.net, to see what I do. I’m good at it. I’ll do it for you—either now or in the future, when you need me. You can also call Dr. Marjorie Lindeke, Zoe’s doctor, at 919-286-2727, and she or her admin will assure you that Zoe’s situation is real and urgent. Thank you for reading this.
