B.C. schools are suspended indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Parents who rely on assistance from school breakfast and lunch programs to help feed their kids are scrambling to make ends meet.

Hi, I'm Brenda Bailey, the Executive Director of DigiBC.

DigiBC is the trade association that represents creative tech (video games, animation, VFX and AR/VR) in the province. We are membership-based and have been around for more than two decades. The talent in this province drives some of the most well-known and successful entertainment properties in the world!

During COVID-19, parts of the entertainment sector have not been impacted as much as others - folks are isolating at home and consuming content. The creative tech sector wants to give back. How can we help the people in our province who are suffering as a result of the disruption from COVID-19? Backpack Buddies is one of the organizations solving this. They pivoted quickly when schools closed and are now providing meals across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. They delivered 1,600 meal packages to hungry children in the week of April 13th alone!

Here is how you can help.
Organize a fundraising drive in your studio and donate the money through this DigiBC portal directly to Backpack Buddies. Rest assured, DigiBC does not take one cent as this is a fundraiser for hungry kids in our communities. Nor is this a competition, as we know many studios are raising money for other important causes and finding meaningful ways to help their communities. Just because a member studio isn't on this campaign does not say they aren't caring... very likely they are doing their own thing. We recognize and celebrate the many efforts that are happening during this dire time.

Let's step up and help prevent kids from going hungry! Let's also show the world that the creative tech sector in BC does not sit idle while our communities suffer. Join us?

Stay well,

Brenda
