Michael Berglund hasn't added a story.
Hi Everyone,
My name is Michael Berglund, more commonly known as Bergs to a
lot of people! I'm taking the dive again to compete in Aprons for
Gloves once more!
This will be my second year competing in AFG. The first year was
an thrilling event with some of the most intense training I've ever
done. I met amazing people, got to fight in boxing match and most
important, I got to help raise money and support a gym that has done
so much for not only me, but a ton of people and especially those who
are more vulnerable, which brings me to my next point.
AFG is a fundraiser for the Eastside Boxing Club to help them
support their afterschool youth programs as well as a variety of of
the gyms other social programs and grow a sense of community in the
Downtown Eastside.
The youth program allows kids to have a safe secure environment
to go to after school. It provides healthy snacks, a safe place to
train and exercise, occasional doctor check-ups, and support works to
the kids that need it most. The fundraising I will be doing will be
going towards this cause and help make sure these kids will have
access to this program for as long as possible.
I'm looking to raise a total of at least $2000 to help support
this great gym and it's programs. Any donations can help this cause
and if I get that goal (and hopefully go above and beyond!) All you
kind souls will get the greatest gift I can give you in return. A full
video of my fight (if I get one) and a bunch of clips of me getting
hit in the face in slow-mo. Cherished memories for all!
If anyone has any questions about the event, the gym, the
programs. Anything at all feel free to ask!
Thanks,
Bergs!
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2019
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise
$2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
