Chasity Chatham hasn't added a story.
Thanks for joining us! I’m Cristian’s mom, Chasity!
When my son first stepped on the ice for his learn to skate program
in the Spring of 2014 I never thought it would be more than a casual
hobby. Now here I am trying to figure out how to make my son’s
competition dreams a reality.
Join us in following his journey.
C's story:
Spring of 2014 I enrolled him into the Skating Academy learn to
skate program in Foxboro. He completed Basic badge levels 1 & 2.
HE LOVED IT! At the end of the season we tried Foxboro’s basic skills
competition. To his delight he won gold. After standing on the podium
and receiving that gold medal the Olympic dreams were born. The
following fall we moved and we started taking lessons with Warwick
Figure Skating. Since then he has passed all his basic badge levels
and quickly started working on his Freestyle levels. Spring of 2016
Cristian worked on Freestyle 3 & 4. After Freestyle 4 Warwick no
longer offers group lessons and we will be heading to strictly private
coaching. June of 2016 he passed Freestyle 4. He typically takes the
summers off when he visits his dad on the west coast.
Summer we decided to join the Skating Club of Boston, Foxboro.
2017 January he passed his pre-preliminary moves in the field
and in March competed in his first "big" competition. He had
a blast at the North Star Open. 2018 has some emotional ups and downs.
Struggled with his axle, grew a fear of jumping... He loved the sport
and didn’t want to give up. We received exciting news Spring of 2018
about an amazing new opportunity... Sur la Glacé figure skating
program at Mount Saint Charles. He was excited to be accepted into
this first ever in New England program. That summer he was interested
in doing theater on ice and ice dancing. Unfortunately, due to budget
constraints we had to say no and focus all funds to the new private school.
Current status: He’s been attending Mt St Charles and LOVES IT!
He skates at least 2 hours a day, or (depending on block scheduling)
also does ballet and other off-ice training. Because he’s able to do
all his skating during school he was able to join Mounts' cheerleading
squad with 3 other skaters from the program. During spring season he
was able to try tennis.
At the Boston Open the family finally got to see his progress.
In only 2 weeks of attending we could all see a HUGE improvement. He
was excited to finally master his axle! He is now working on
perfecting juvenile freestyle and intermediate moves in the field.
We’ll be looking into fundraising for this year. Cristian wants to continue at Mount (tuition went up this year) as well as try a new adventure... Ice dancing and theatre on ice! We are very excited for what the future holds for this lil showman!
He is also very busy with his Boy Scout troop and volunteering his time with the local Cub Scout pack. He’s still dreaming/working hard towards the coveted Eagle Rank.
Can't wait to see what the rest of 2019 has to hold! Wishing Cristian
lots of luck!!!
