Neil Blenkinsop aged 54, a husband and father of two daughters, musician, artist, clinician, lost his life on November 14th 2014 within a fortnight of diagnosis of a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer.

On September 13th I will be taking part in the Morrisons Great North Run 2015. I will be running for the Neil Blenkinsop Foundation in memory of my friend Neil and for his family.

Please read Neil's story below...

Neil Blenkinsop aged 54, a husband and father of two daughters, musician, artist, clinician, lost his life on November 14th 2014 within a fortnight of diagnosis of a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer - cholangiocarcinoma.

The Neil Blenkinsop Foundation has been set up to help fund research into this disease. In Great Britain fewer than 1,000 people are diagnosed each year with intrahepatic bile duct cancer. Around 400 people are diagnosed with extrahepatic bile duct cancer. It is almost always a type of cancer called adenocarcinoma, which starts in the lining of the bile duct. There is very little information about this. It is more difficult to collect information when a cancer is very rare.

Unfortunately, due to the aggressive nature of bile duct cancer, fewer than one-third of patients are suitable for surgery. Neil's cancer was advanced and aggressive taking only a fortnight from diagnosis to end his life.

So please, if you can spare just a few pounds, it will make a real difference to researching and finding a cure for this rare form of cancer.

Thank you for your support,

Glyn
