Seniors represent the fastest growing homeless population in Canada, leaving too many elders at housing risk and living on the streets or shelters. Help us renovate and furnish a safe house for North Shore’s homeless seniors by June 30, 2015.

Every month Hollyburn Family Services Society receives 400 phone calls from emergency service providers, hospitals and neighbours concerned about a homeless senior or a senior at housing risk. 400 phone calls EVERY MONTH!!!!

Our senior homeless outreach workers can work miracles but even miracles take time. Sometimes it can take up to 3 months to move a senior into safe and stable housing. The hardest thing we do in our jobs is leaving a senior living on the street or in a shelter until suitable housing becomes available.

Today, we have an opportunity to change that! One of our municipalities is providing us with a house we can use as temporary housing for homeless senors or seniors fleeing abusive situations where they can stay until we find them permanent housing. We are so excited! We can now immediately take a senior off the street and put them in a warm and safe place until their new home is available. But we need your help. This home was slated for demolition, its structurally sound but it needs some work. A lot of work! We have many angel volunteers stepping up to help but we need money to renovate and furnish the home.

Our work is hard but with your help we can provide our most vulnerable citizens of our community the services and resources they require to thrive and grow. Since 2004 Hollyburn Family Services Society has been tackling hard issues like providing solutions to youth and senior homelessness, shifting at risk youth to resilient, contributing and engaged members of our community, supporting children and adults who have experienced violence and providing resources, support and education to parents and caregivers so they can develop happy, healthy  families.

Please donate so we can replace the carpet and flooring, provide window coverings, repair the walls and paint, provide furniture and replace the kitchen and bathroom fixtures so the house can be comfortable, warm and safe for our seniors.  Be part of the solution and help us provide dignity, hope and housing to homeless seniors. Please.
