FRESH (Female Recovery Enterprises and Self Help) is a new women’s group that runs in Fife as part of a  bigger recovery community project called Restoration.

All of the females group members are in recovery from  drug or alcohol problems and have additional issues that they are also recovering from such as childhood trauma, domestic abuse, rape and sexual assault or family breakdown.

The group meet weekly to support each other to stay on recovery and keep safe.

FRESH wants to become a self-sustaining group and in times of funding shortages drugs and alcohol are not a popular cause, however, in most cases the trauma came first and substances are used to cope.

60-70% of women in drug and alcohol treatment in Scotland have suffered domestic abuse in the last 5 years, 56% experienced  physical abuse from a partner , 54-90% of people with drug or alcohol problems  report childhood sexual abuse, 42-50% report childhood physical abuse.  30-59% of female patients in drug or alcohol  treatment have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This project offers a safe space for women to talk and explore these issues in a healthy way
