Hi! I'm Kaitlyn Wells. I am a student studying at the University of Guelph and a supporter of Impact Ecuador. When I was in high school, I went on two missions trips to the incredible community of Carmen Bajo, Quito Ecuador. Then, last summer, I decided to return to be a site host intern with an organization called Youth World serving again in Carmen Bajo.

This community has a very special place in my heart. During my time as a site host I helped with the children's program at the church and at the Compassion Centre . They provide the children with lunches and education which means so much to their families and the community. I also had the chance to help with their Bible School program that they run for three weeks in the summer. This program provides children and youth with a fun way to learn more about the Bible and God's love for them. I now know many of the people in the community and have grown to love each of them.

International Teams Canada, through Impact Ecuador is a major supporter of the Carmen Bajo community. They help to send teams down to work alongside the people there  and they receive donations to assist with their programs. Carmen Bajo loves each team that comes. Sadly though, so far this year Carmen Bajo has been unable to receive teams. They, as most other places in the world, have been under quarantine because of COVID-19. Besides not receiving the support from the teams they see each year, they have had to shift their direction of serving. They are still paying their staff and bringing food and supplies to the homes of people who need the support right now. The community of Carmen Bajo could really use your prayers and if you feel compelled and are able, I am sure they would appreciate your financial support. Thank you so much for giving to this cause!

Impact Ecuador supports the people of Carmen Bajo, a neighbourhood in Quito, through the ministry of Carmen Bajo Church. Due to high unemployment, there is widespread poverty in the community, and many struggle with social problems such as alcoholism and family degradation.

Impact Ecuador partners with  Carmen Bajo Church  to provide food, education, vocational opportunities, and spiritual growth to the whole community.

Volunteers and staff provide a hot lunch and a half-day of tutoring to hundreds of kid each week through the  Quito Kids Meals and Tutoring Program.  This program is a place of belonging, love, and learning for kids in the community who otherwise would be on their own all day until late in the evening.

Scholarships are available to community members seeking post-secondary education. These are instrumental in lifting whole families out of poverty.

The Carmen Bajo Church construction project has provided the church with a new building that fits their growing congregation and has become a centre for the whole community to take classes, join programs, and learn more about the Gospel.

Consistency of vision and leadership is essential for the success of any program. Impact Ecuador provides support, both practical and financial, to Pastor Fabian and his wife Grace, who have tirelessly led the Carmen Bajo Church for more than 15 years. We’re committed to supporting them as they continue to serve in their community.
