Who 2.0: Pay It Forward Mobile Co-Founders Jack & Christine Gerbehy and son Reilly want to say Thank You for stopping by this page.
Who 2.1 Pay It Forward Mobile is a mobile charging & communication center built for the community. It has wireless internet, and a generator. The "Rig," as I call it, or "The Big Truck," as our 10 year old affectionately named it, is deployed after the power has been knocked out.
- Built with the community in mind enabling them to stay charged and in touch with the outside world, through the use of our internet and on board generator. They can drop off phones for charging, and tap into internet access as well.
- Using truck-mounted televisions, we also have the ability to stream or broadcast over air news, local weather,& power outage updates while keeping people charged and connected until power is restored.
It's not all about Emergencies: Below was one of our Cancer medical bills fundraiser dinners for a local family at Outback Restaurant in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
The Bad News: After 27 years of serving the community, "Rescue 145," our communication platform & visual ambassador of good will, a 26 foot long 1991 Chevrolet retired firetruck that keeps us "Mobile" needs a new motor.
The Good News: With months worth of requests for a replacement motor from multiple Vendors, two companies have come to the rescue. One, Jon Miller Car Care ,donated labor to replace the motor itself, as well as other needed repairs. The other has discounted the motor (they have asked us not to share their info at this time), but we need to raise the balance of the money for the motor ($2500.00) Plus, while in the shop, $500 more worth of overdue parts like Brakes and suspension. We hope to be able to expand the range of our abilities as the program evolves. We will streamline our non emergency philanthropic efforts and celebrate the people of our communities and begin "Care Packs For Kids: By Pay It Forward." (pleasure packages for children suffering from childhood diseases)
Through this streamlining my hope is to:
- Energize communities and start conversations...
- not just supply them with power & communications
- while empowering the Pay It Forward philosophy.
We run this all out of pocket, and being the poorest philanthropist on the planet if we don't source these funds I'm unsure if we will be able to champion what we do. Optimistic but concerned, I post this fundraiser page.
So why do we support others but never fundraise for ourselves: In the tradition of paying it forward, you never ask for more from the recipients of goodwill than for them to pay forward their good fortune. So it just seemed odd to ask for help... We have asked corporate America for donations, but could never bring ourselves to ask for monies to keep us going. But now, having exhausted all avenues, we find ourselves having no other options.
- So why help so many?
We knew we could be so much more for the community than just communications and power during outages. To keep us involved year round, we create or piggyback on events as we can:Cookies for Kids with CancerAlex's Lemonade StandStrides for Breast Cancer AwarenessReal Men Wear Pink in support of Breast Cancer AwarenessToys for TotsLocal backpack challengesVolunteering with 3rd parties at the local food banksCradles for CrayonsHabitat for Humanity, as well as being involved with repairs to the boys and girls club after Sandy damageMost recently I was vetted and approved to volunteer with Operation Home front. W hy more than one? Emergencies aside, opportunities to support the community come available or simply work better during one time of the year than other. Think of Alex's Lemonade stand around Christmas compared to Toys For Tots. It keeps things fresh for all involved (including those returning to donate to the events themselves especially corporate supporters). It also keeps us in the public eye with new media content year round.
Not being all about Emergencies: These pics are of us loading up during a clothing drive ( We filled the truck from front to back) and organizing care packs for those in need
