Diane Irwin hasn't added a story.
Hi, I'm Sparky. I'm warm and dry now, and getting plenty to eat. But
my neck hurts, I try not to cry but sometimes I can't help it. Can you
help me?
AADR was contacted about a dachshund living outside in
a crate. The temperatures were below freezing at night where he lived,
and we couldn't let the little guy freeze to death. Arrangements were
made, he was handed over to a member still in the crate he was
imprisoned within.
As he was handed over, the owner told a sad
story. Sparky was purchased as a wee pup for a family member and lived
the good life as a treasured pet. His meals were cooked to order and
he was loved. A year or so ago, Sparky's beloved owner died, and his
world turned upside down. A family member took him in and tried to
care for him, but money was tight. The landlord declared that Sparky
could not live in the house and he would have to go. That's when AADR
stepped up and agreed to take him. Sparky's life is looking up again,
right? No, there's more to his story...
When Sparky arrived at
the AADR member's home and his prison door opened, a timid and pitiful
little creature emerged. His bones stuck out, his fur was thin and he
stepped very carefully. He happily consumed a good meal and fresh
water. He carefully laid down on a warm bed with blankets. After
awhile, he cautiously approached me and asked to be held. Sweet, sweet
little boy! The next day he traveled on to AADR headquarters where he
would see a vet, get any meds he needed and wait for a foster, then a
forever home. On the way, I stopped to get him a new bed and blanket
for his crate, a collar and leash and a pretty jacket. Sparky would
not be cold again! When removing the old bedding, horror struck. The
far end of the crate bedding was urine soaked and smeared in feces.
Poor little Sparky!
Sparky arrived at Dr. Story's office where
he was examined from head to toe. The exam revealed a narrowing of a
disc in his neck which was causing him pain and the reason he moved so
carefully. He was put on meds and rest, but unfortunately, this
treatment is not working. Even though he is in pain, he is the best
little boy! If Sparky is to have a life, he will need surgery to take
his neck pain away.
AADR had previously committed to another
dachshund requiring life changing back surgery. Funds are not
available for helping Sparky as well. We are turning to the dachshund
nation for help. Sparky is sweet, gentle, friendly and has a lot of
love left to give. Please look into your heart and send what ever you
may spare to help Sparky get his surgery and go back to being a
treasured pet!
