An estimated, 50,409 soldiers were wounded in action and 239,174 were diagnosed with PTSD.
In one recent study, 15 percent of all Iraq and Afghanistan combat veterans were found to have suffered a traumatic brain injury. According to Veterans Health Administration data collected by Veterans for Common Sense, from 2002 through December 2013, approximately 338,294 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who came for care at a VA facility were diagnosed with PTSD. Diagnosed rates of depression and PTSD may represent just one half of all actual cases given veterans’ inability or reluctance to be assessed or treated or their treatment outside the VA system. http://costsofwar.org/article/us-and-allied-wounded
The statistics are staggering and they affect all of us. This is our opportunity to bring hope and independence back into the lives of many veterans and their families who are living with PTSD every day.
Specially trained service dogs can help adults with psychiatric disabilities; such as PTSD for our soldiers returning from unthinkable situations in war. These dogs assist our brave men and women in a way that no other form of therapy can.
Little Angels Service Dogs are trained to alert by pawing at the leg of their handler when they sense the chemical changes of a panic attack or flashback, helping the handler to refocus on the dog. These dogs are trained to go around corners ahead of the handler, and to assist with creating larger personal boundaries in crowded public places. With the dogs help our soldiers are able to better reintegrated back home.
Little Angels Service Dogs is a charitable, non-profit 501c3 corporation that reaches across all of the United States partnering service dogs with the disabled.
