Ride To Give hasn't added a story.
*** 42 HOUR FLASH FUNDRAISER ALERT ***
On Mother's Day in 2008, Sarah Portillo of Loveland, Colorado was in the hospital with her daughter Lily after Lily's first major surgery. She received a gift basket on Mother’s Day that was so overwhelming she just sat and stared at it. Right then she vowed to pay forward all the kindness and support which she had received throughout Lily's life. Lily, who celebrated her 12th birthday April 5th, has dealt with multiple hospitalizations, surgeries and illnesses since she was a baby. Thankfully, family and friends have blessed the Portillos with much needed help in each event, expected or not.
Sadly, many mothers do not have nearby family, or have been at a hospital that is in an area far away from home. Treatments and care for a child can take a lengthy time and cause stress for families. More often than not, mothers are the likeliest to stay with their child at the hospital. They lose sleep, eat little, and do not think of themselves- they are dedicated entirely to their child's healing. In the last two years Ride to Give has introduced you to many of these amazingly selfless Mothers, including Stacy Halstead, Katie Harrison, Tabitha Truelove, and many others. These women are “Super Moms”, and Sarah’s goal is to give them the Mother’s Day treat they deserve!
Thanks to a collaboration with the Colorado Foundation for Conductive Education, and to honor Sarah’s friend Rachel’s son and their efforts in "Zach Attacks," Sarah plans to give at least 100 special gift bags to moms of hospitalized children on Mother's Day weekend, at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO. The bags will be filled with a handmade blanket, Starbucks reusable coffee tumbler, massage coupons, a handmade coffee cup cozy, inspirational book, nail polish, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste & deodorant) and special jewelry donated by Alexa's Angels and additional friends. The nail polish and cozies are currently funded for by a local Starbucks district, and several other amazing donors.
Additional items need to be purchased and that is where Ride to Give wants to help Sarah honor these special Mothers.
Over the next 42 hours we want to see how much we can raise in support of “Mother's Day 2015 - A Lily & Zach Attack.” Each of these special Mother’s Day gifts cost a minimum of $60 to put together on top of all the already donated items. Lets show Sarah that the Ride to Give ARMY is behind her efforts to pay it forward this Mother’s Day.
